The Distinction Between God’s Control and Authority Explained

I was listening to a podcast and the statement God is not in control had me thinking WHAT!!!!!; it is time to turn this off. I shouted out loud GOD IS IN CONTROL! He knows all things, right?! The statement went on to say is He is not in control ONLY He also is in AUTHORITY.

Let’s define for more context……

Control is the power, authority, or ability to manage, direct, regulate, or restrain people, actions, or processes.

Authority is the legitimate power or right to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience.

They are usually compared to one another, but authority holds a greater level of power!

Ultimately, I can agree with the statement, but then I was compelled to read in scripture

Colossians 1:16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.

It can be very hard for the human mind to understand this truth. Still, it serves as a hopeful reminder of surrender, submission, and safety in a dying world. Let this blog post be an encouragement. God is Sovereign. He knows all. He sees all and He hears all.
